Meet Martin Honings – Ward Gangelt II (centre)

My name is Martin Honings, I’m 41, the father of two daughters, and I live with my family in Gangelt. I work as a systems engineer – a job that has shown me how important smart, forward-looking solutions are. In my spare time I have volunteered for many years, including as chairman of our local football club. For me, a sports club is a place of togetherness, openness and community – values that matter to me in politics, too.

I’m standing for Bündnis 90/Die Grünen because I’m convinced that we finally need the courage to make our society more sustainable, fairer and more humane. We don’t need more token politics – we need real change.

Climate action can’t be put off any longer

Climate change is already a reality – here, too. Extreme weather, droughts and the threat to our farmland and forests affect us all. Yet the political will to consistently take the necessary action is often lacking. I want to stand up for policies that see climate action not as a burden but as an opportunity: for clean energy, for local value creation, for a liveable future for our children.

We need more investment in sustainable mobility, renewable energy and climate-resilient towns and villages. And we finally need clear priorities – not just lip service.

For a respectful community that looks out for each other

I see every day how important community is. But especially in times of crisis and social uncertainty, there is sadly another side too: exclusion, intolerance, backsliding. I find it incomprehensible that people are still disadvantaged or excluded today – simply because they think differently, live differently or come from somewhere else.

Whether on the football pitch, at work or in the neighbourhood: diversity is a strength, not a threat. I stand for an open society in which everyone has the same opportunities – regardless of origin, gender, religion or social status. A society in which nobody has to be afraid to stand up for who they are.

More progress, less standstill

The current political majorities often act as a brake on real, future-oriented policy. Instead of forward-looking answers, in many places we are seeing steps backwards: on climate action, on digitalisation, on social cohesion. I want to help us get moving again – pragmatically, but with clear principles.

We need modern, reliable structures – in public administration, in education and in essential public services. I want to help turn good ideas into concrete solutions that genuinely help people.

I’m not standing because I think I know better than everyone else – but because I want to take responsibility. For our children. For our environment. For living well together.
